Entrapment Or Capture Pumps Introduction

Pumps used to capture gas molecules on a vacuum system's surfaces are known as entrapment or capture pumps. The pumps function at flow rates much lower than those pumps like transfer pumps. Nevertheless, they still can provide high vacuums, down to 10 to 12 Torr. Entrapment pumps operate using ionic reaction, chemical reaction, or cryogenic condensation. Since they have no moving parts, they are perfect for applications that require oil-free vacuums.

Capture vacuum pumps that operate using chemical reactions are the most effective and are often placed inside containers where a vacuum is needed. Air and gas molecules create thin films which are removed by the pump. As the pump operates, it causes a chemical reaction inside the pump’s internal surfaces. These pumps are generally used along with momentum transfer vacuum pumps, and displacement vacuum pumps to create ultra-high vacuums.Examples includes high vacuum pumps such as cryo, ion, and getters pumps.

Entrapment Or Capture Pumps Feature

Entrapment or capture pumps work using chemical reactions, are known to perform more effectively because they are usually placed inside the space or container to be vacuumed. The molecules in the air create a thin film which is removed by the entrapment pumps as they chemically react to the internal surfaces of the pump. This type of vacuum pump uses cold temperatures to condense gases to a solid or absorbed state. To create ultra high vacuum chambers, the entrapment pumps are used alongwith positive displacement vacuum pumps and momentum transfer vacuum pumps.


All the above types of vacuum pumps are further classified into liquid ring vacuum pumps, single cone vacuum pumps, close couple vacuum pumps, two stage vacuum pumps, chemical process pumps and twin lobe roots blower.

Entrapment Or Capture Pumps Application

Entrapment Or Capture can be used for drying, sealing the container and other ancillary pumping air or net vacuum equipment.


It has the advantages of small size, light weight, low noise, convenient for using and more.

Cannot be used as the compression type delivery pump.

Be used independently, which also can be as the booster pump, diffusion pump, molecular pump, and titanium pump's pre-pump. Also used as electronic devices produce, vacuum drying, filtration, welding, metal smelting, etc.
