Cryogenic Globe Valve Introduction

Cryogenic globe valves are available with a wide range of connections and material combinations. They can be equipped with additional functions, such as bellows seals for increased tightness requirements, or with a non-return function. With this combination, use of a separate valve can be eliminated. Cryogenic globe valves are available in sizes from DN10 to DN200 and secure pressures up to 50 bar, at operating temperatures of -255°C to +120°C.

Cryogenic valves are specially designed for gas treatment processes and storage and transportation of liquefied gasses such as LNG, liquid nitrogen, Oxygen,. Etc. These valves are required to be operated to give assured leakage rates. These valves which are recommended to use below -50⁰C are designed with a extended bonnet which separates the operator and stem seal from the cold temperature. 12” gas column is a standard feature for these valves.

The main pressure containing components are treated with liquid nitrogen to stabilize dimensions and eliminate the stress caused by metal microstructure changes. Lip seals are used as a seals in these valves which are made up of different materials such as PTFE, KEL-F, etc, and it is self energized by an internal spring of stainless or Inconel alloy.

Cryogenic Globe Valve Application

A cryogenic globe valve is specifically designed to handle applications that involve extremely low temperatures. It is also used where there is high pressure and corrosive media. A cryogenic globe valve is made with a self-aligning disc and integral seat to ensure a positive shut-off. This also helps extend the lifespan of the globe valve.
