A flushometer is a metal diverter that flushes a tankless toilet or urinal using an inline handle.It was invented by William Elvis Sloan.

Functions

It uses the water pressure of the water supply system rather than the gravity of a raised tank like previous models.Separates the pressure chamber from the main water supply.A narrow channel leads from the main water supply to the pressure chamber.It is the narrowing of this channel that meters the flow by slowing down the repressurization of the pressure chamber after the flushing action. Diaphragm technology allows the flush valve to open and allow water to enter the toilet.The master cylinder valve moves up and down. Grooves in this cylinder allow water from the mains water supply to flow through when it is in the middle position.The valve is closed in both its top and bottom positions.A second valve located inside the master cylinder valve releases water from the topmost pressure chamber when the flush lever is actuated, causing the master cylinder valve to spray upward.The uppermost pressure chamber slowly refills through its narrow channel, pushing the valve cylinder gradually downward. A flush occurs when it is in open middle position. Because the water is shut off gradually, slower water that does not activate the siphon is used to refill the bowl at the end of the cycle. You can't keep the valve open by holding the flush lever in the activated position, wasting water, because that would just send the master cylinder valve all the way to its top closed position.Flushing only occurs when the valve is in one of the intermediate positions.
